Sewing my first Baby Dress

July 14, 2009 by

Well, I finally attempted to sew a dress for my baby.  Only took me 6 months or so to build up the courage. One time, early last spring, when Hancock Fabrics had a huge sale on their patterns (like $1 each, or something crazy like that) I picked up a bunch of patterns I thought would be easy enough for me to handle.  When I finally broke out the patterns this weekend, I realized I don’t really know that much about sewing. Understitching, basting, topstitching – WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN??? Sewing blankets is much easier than the dress.

Then I busted out my “Sewing for Dummys” book and realized it wasn’t too complicated.  The pattern was a little difficult to read, beings it was my first attempt at reading a pattern, but I got through it. And when I totally didn’t undertand someting, I fudged.  Here’s how it turned out…..

The pattern also has a hat and bloomers included (they call them panties, which doesn’t seem right to me when there is a diaper under there), but I think I will attempt this at a later date.

Wow…you are so crafy. I buy stuff like that…patterns, and tons of stuff for decorating her nursery and never get to them. I have so many projects lined up it is ridiculous. Good job on your dress though. Can’t wait to see Brooklyn in it.
